SHIVA'S WAY

The Holy Ganga, descends from the Heavens. She is full of Divine force and wisdom, and it is not possible to straight away receive her upon the earth. Thus it is Shiva's way to meditate, Receive the Gyan Ganga upon His head; Stabilize the impact and then, trickle it down gently for the others, so that they too may quench their thirst.  This forms the basis of the "Guru Shishya" Maryada of Hinduism. The Guru, who has himself attained to Samadhi and is steeped in God consciousness, may then help others on their path.
Aum Namah Shivaye.
~ Shail Gulhati: Shiva and Mysticism.

“ The Causal Body is the state of the “unknowable” or “the void” which is presented in the point of view of western philosophers. This state which is devoid of all thoughts, imagination, and doubts,is often mistakenly taken by aspirants to be Samadhi, and thought to be the same as Brahman without concepts or qualities (Nirvikalpa Brahman). When this void or state or emptiness is reached, one is likely to get a false satisfaction and say, “Today I saw Brahman.” The interval or pause between where one modification of the mind disappears, and another one does not arise(such as the space between two thoughts, or the intervening pause before sleep sets in and the waking state disappears) is a state of pure forgetfulness. This is what is described as the “Covering of Bliss” (Anandamaya Kosha) in the scriptures. In the Causal Body all chaos, struggle, and the infinite number of waves of thought have ceased. Therefore, there is a sense of peace in this third body that is not found in the other two bodies. It is true that the aspirant experiences a certain joy,but this is not Ultimate Peace,or even true Bliss.”

Self-attention is the sole aim of all Bhagavan's teachings. He taught us that self alone exists and is real, and that all else is a dream, a figment of our imagination. He said, 'Attend to that for which you came'; we came for knowing self and not for learning many theories. However, a thorough understanding of his teachings and the theories he proposed will enable us to quieten our mind in any situation.

Being ātma-niṣṭhāparaṉ [one who is completely fixed in and as oneself], giving not even the slightest room to the rising of any cintana [thought] other than ātma-cintana [thought of oneself], alone is giving oneself to God. Even though one places whatever amount of burden upon God, that entire amount he will bear. Since one paramēśvara śakti [supreme ruling power or power of God] is driving all kāryas [whatever needs or ought to be done or to happen], instead of we also yielding to it, why to be perpetually thinking, ‘it is necessary to do like this; it is necessary to do like that’? Though we know that the train is going bearing all the burdens, why should we who go travelling in it, instead of remaining happily leaving our small luggage placed on it [the train], suffer bearing it [our luggage] on our head?

Nurtureoneslife:
Papaji Maha Samadhi Day, Today, 13th September  (13.10.1910 - 6.9.1997)

Q : How do I get back to my own true nature? I have been a Buddhist monk for ten years, but instead of being free, I feel dry and repressed. How can I let go of control and repression and return to my true nature?

Sri Papaji : You need love. If you love your own Self you will see God and it is only through Love that you will get back to your own true nature. God needs only love; therefore, you must love only God. What does your name mean?

Q : It means "seer.'

Sri Papaji : So you must be the seer, not the object of sight. Whatever you see is an object of sight and you cannot be such an object. Seer only sees and is not an object and so you must reject the sight.

Start with your own body. It is seen and it is an object.
Now I will take you behind all objects.
Whatever you see, think, taste, hear, feel, smell, or touch is an object. So the whole universe is included in this.
All the five elements are objects that you see and you are beyond them. Now see who the seer is.
Who sees these things?
Turn you face beyond these.

Q :I Am.

Sri Papaji : "I Am" is not subject or object
and this "I am is That "I Am."
Now this "I Am" must turn its head to That still beyond.

Q : I do not understand.

Sri Papaji :
Because you can't and you are not to understand.
Understanding is with the mind and
I am taking you beyond the mind.
Therefore, lay down your understanding.
Don't try to understand or think
what this understanding may be and
then tell me who you are.
Not "I AM," not understanding,
just turn your face toward That,
and lay down all efforts.

Q : Just this, just is !

Sri Papaji : And this Isness is Enlightenment
because it is beyond all senses.
It is only Isness.
Do you want to go beyond this or is Isness enough?

Q : You can't go beyond Isness.

Sri Papaji : By saying that you can't go beyond,
you are giving limitations to it.
It is very close.
The trouble is that there is too much nearness,
for it is nearer than anything.
Why can't the retina be seen?
Tomorrow tell me the answer.
The best Gatha will be rewarded.
God is not as near as this because
you can call his name and draw a figure of him.
This which is too near cannot be defined by
any word, sign, or thought, or effort.
It is so simple to know what it is.
So where does the love come in?
A lot of what you say are things that
we already practice in Buddhism.
For practice you need your mind and body.
You are not to use your physical body
because anything that you get from physical practice will be physical, and anything you get from the mind will be mental.
Where I am taking you is beyond physicality,
beyond mentality, beyond spirituality.
This is Freedom.

Q : How do I transcend the mind?

Sri Papaji : For transcendence you must do constant meditation. First start to meditate on objects, this is concentration.
This is why there are idols of different gods.
It is to train the mind.

As a monk you have spent a lot of time doing this, of course. Then simply close your eyes and do not let any object into your mind. When there is no object you will enter into a space which you can't mention, this is called transcendence.
Now you must fall in love with this state or
you will love something else.
This is the only thing that will give you constant eternal love. Such few people want this though.

Everybody wants physical or emotional enjoyments.
If you transcend these things you will fall in love with It
and It will fall in love with you!
You will have a very intimate relationship.
It is very easy. You just have to fully desire this.
You will see that it has always been here,
but you have wanted something else.

From The Truth Is book

22 years back, one of the appearances of Self discarded the body which was known as 'Papaji' and not before it gave freedom to many other appearances that were bound in ignorance of their true nature.
'Papaji' was known for his simplicity, humbleness and compassion for all who approached him.
He is ever present in the hearts of all appearances of the Self. To find him, one has to simply dive deep within oneself.

 Papaji says:
Reality is that which always exists and never changes.

When everything has burned, the rain of Grace will fall on you.

All rises, dances about in, and returns to Emptiness.

Death is not our nature.
Our nature is eternity. To be free of death
and rebirth, of sorrow and suffering.

Surrender. Let Silence have You.

~ Sri Poonjaji 'Papaji'

PAPAJI: When the disciple meets a realize master and hears the ultimate truth, he will become free at a stroke.

STUDENT: What if, dispite all his sincerity, he does not becomes free immediately upon hearing the truth once?

PAPAJI: Than maybe in next life. This person needs more samsara. We will all arrive home, now or later. If not today then tomorrow; if not tomorrow then next life. But we will all arrive at home, such is our destiny. And when we become free we will realize that there has never been any process at all. That this all was only a concept. Time was a concept, my ignorance was a concept. At the end he will understand this.
The Guru will not make him understand this. No one can make him understand this. He has to not understand, until one day something will happen to him.

STUDENT: But is there nothing the person can do to make herself ready?

PAPAJI: This is postponement. One who says "I have to prepare myself" is deceiving himself, fooling himself. What can be done tomorrow, why not today?

STUDENT: Then is there not a place for sadhana in your teaching?

PAPAJI: No.

STUDENT: So, you give disciples nothing? Nothing to do?

PAPAJI: No. Why give them something to do? They have been doing many things with other teachers. I only tell them: "No effort. No thinking. Keep quiet". And this is working! That is why people all over the world are comming here. Every teacher give them teachings, but there are no results. There are many ashrams all over the world, many spiritual centers. People are doing many things for many years, but there is no result. The mind is not quiet because any yoga or spiritual practice they are doing they are doing with the mind and the body. Sadhana is done with the mind, but the mind cannot arrive there.

🕉

Question: Does my realisation help others?

Bhagavan: Yes, certainly. It is the best help possible. But really there are no others to help, for a Realised Being sees only the Self,
just as a goldsmith, estimating the gold in various jewels, sees only the gold.

Separate forms and beings exist only so long as you identify yourself with the body. When you transcend this identification others disappear along with your body-consciousness.

Question: Isn't it necessary that saints should mix with people and be helpful to them?

Bhagavan: The Self alone is the Reality; the world and the rest of it are not. The Realised Man does not see the world as different
from himself.

Question: Then does a man's realisation lead to the uplift of mankind without their being aware of it?

Bhagavan: Yes. The help is imperceptible but is still there. A Realised Man helps the whole of mankind although they do not know it.

Question: Wouldn't it be better if he mixed with others?

Bhagavan: There are no others to mix with. The Self is the one
and only Reality.

"Life is short, energy limited. And with this limited energy we have to find the unlimited; with this short life we have to find the eternal. A great task, a great challenge. So please don't be concerned with unimportant matters."

What is important and what is unimportant?
In Atisha's definition, or in the definition of all the buddhas, that which can be taken by death is unimportant and that which cannot be taken by death is important. Remember this definition, let this be a touchstone. You can judge anything immediately on this touchstone.

Have you seen the touchstone on which gold is judged? Let this be a touchstone for you, for what is important: is death going to take it away from you? Then it is not important. Money then is not important, useful but not important, has no import. Power, prestige, respectability - death will come and efface them all, so why make so much fuss about them for the few days you are here? This is a caravanserai, an Overnight stay, and by the morning we go.

❓ Neighbour: “What is discrimination?”
Sri Ramakrishna: “That only God is real (Sat), all else is unreal (Asat). Thinking this way is discrimination. ‘Real’ means eternal, and ‘unreal’ means transient. Whoever has attained discrimination knows, that God is the only reality, that all else is unreal. When you’ve developed discrimination, you want to know God. If you are inclined to the unreal, you like physical comforts, name and fame, money, and all these things. You don’t feel the need to know God, who is Reality Himself. When you know the difference between the real and the unreal, only then will you want to seek God. … You attain discrimination only when dispassion comes to the mind. When you have attained discrimination, you begin to think of the truth. Then the mind has the desire to stroll under the Kalpataru (wish-fulfilling tree) of Kali. When you are under this tree, when you are near God, the four fruits come to you effortlessly. You have only to pick them up – the fruits of dharma (righteousness), artha (wealth), kama (fulfillment of legitimate desires) and moksha (Liberation). When a householder attains Him, whatever he needs – dharma, artha, or kama – he gets”.

You are awareness. Awareness is another name for you.
Since you are awareness there is no need to attain or cultivate it. All that you have to do is to give up being aware of other things, that is of the not-Self. If one gives up being aware of them then pure awareness alone remains, and that is the Self.

No personal, individual effort can possibly lead to enlightenment.
On the contrary, what is necessary, is to rest helpless in beingness, knowing that we are nothing -- to be in the nothingness of the no-mind state, in which all conceptualizing has subsided into passive witnessing.
In this state whatever happens, will be not our doing, but the pure universal functioning, to which we have relinquished all control.

*******

It is nothing, but the personalization of the impersonal Consciousness as individual identity, that constitutes the infamous 'ignorance', from which liberation is sought.
And liberation, or true knowledge, is the realization that this identity is merely an illusion, a temporary aberration, like the shadow of a passing cloud.

Q: I wish to get sakshatkara [direct realization] of Sri Krishna. What should I do to get it?

Sri Ramana Maharshi :
What is your idea of Sri Krishna and what do you mean by sakshatkara?

Q: I mean Sri Krishna who lived in Brindavan and I want to see him as the gopis [his female devotees] saw him.

Sri Ramana Maharshi :
You see, you think he is a human being or one with a human form, the son of so and so, whereas he himself has said, `I am in the Heart of all beings, I am the beginning, the middle and the end of all forms of life.'

He must be within you, as he is within all. He is your Self or the Self of your Self. So if you see this entity [the Self] or have sakshatkara of it, you will have sakshatkara of Krishna. Direct realization of the Self and direct realization of Krishna cannot be different.

However, to go your own way, surrender completely to Krishna and leave it to him to grant the sakshatkara you want.

Nurtureoneslife:
SADNESS IS NOT NATURAL

Sadness is always a sign that you're believing a stressful
thought that isn't true for you. It's a constriction, and it feels bad.

Conventional wisdom says differently, but the truth is that sadness isn't rational, it isn't a natural response, and it can't ever help you. It just indicates the loss of reality, the loss of the awareness of love.

Sadness is the war with what IS. It's a tantrum. You can experience it only when you're arguing with God. When the mind is clear, there isn't any sadness. There can't be.

What does compassion look like? At a funeral, just eat the cake. You don't have to know what to do. It's revealed to you.
Someone comes into your arms, and the kind words speak
themselves; you're not doing it. Compassion isn't a doing.

Whether or not you're suffering over their suffering, you're standing or you're sitting. But one way you're comfortable, the other way you're not.

You don’t have to feel bad to act kindly. On the contrary:
the less you suffer the kinder you naturally become. And if compassion means wanting others to be free of suffering, how can you want for others what you won’t give yourself?

- Byron Katie, A Thousand Names for Joy

Enlightenment is, in the end, nothing more than the natural state of being. ~Adyashanti

Oh Arjuna, I am the Self
indwelling in the hearts of all beings.
I am thus the beginning, the middle,
as also the end of all beings.

~ Sri Krishna ,Bhagavad Gita :  X-20

According to Bhagavan Ramana,
this verse is the most important in the entire Bhagavad Gita.

In a dream, I may see several people and all of them are not only my creations (creations of my mind) but I constitute the material cause out of which all these people have been created (just as the mud is the material cause for a mud- pot).

In other words, all the dream figures are my mental imaginations. (mere thoughts.)

It is I who appear as having been born
as the various people in the dream,
I only run their lives in the dream as the Self in all those
bodies and I also appear as having died one day.

In the same way, it is the one Absolute Consciousness which appears as several beings in the world of the waking state (the
beginning) , runs the lives as individuals (the middle) and appears as subject to death (the end) one day.

In reality there is nothing but that one Consciousness
which is the absolute truth.
There is no world apart from that one Consciousness (Self).

“The Pure being is the Reality. -
The Pure Being cannot be otherwise than Consciousness. Otherwise you cannot say that you exist.

Therefore Consciousness is the reality.
When that consciousness is associated
with upadhis you speak of Self consciousness,
unconsciousness, human consciousness, dog consciousness,
tree consciousness and so on.
The unfaltering common factor in all of them is Consciousness.” (Talk no 591).

‘Consciousness’ means to be aware that ‘I exist’,
This awareness of our existence is consciousness.

~ from Gita Sarah book
(Commentary on the slokas of Bhagavad Gita selected
by Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi)

There is a Divine force (Chaitanya Sakti) which is the source of all things. All other qualities cannot  be discarded unless we get hold of that force. Sadhana is required to get hold of that force. Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi

When you are experiencing with your attention rooted in being, your mind is no longer collecting outer impressions and the usual noise of the world goes unnoticed. All is replaced by this field of seamless awareness. For most people, their attention is engaged with sensory perception, and the noise produced there becomes the background of their being.
But for one who is absorbed in the Self, the most profound experience is that of unbroken, soundless Awareness, in which all phenomena appear and disappear without trace. For the one who has lost interest in the mind play, impressions drift further and further away from the heart of perceiving. This should be everyone’s unbroken experience. However, when we get wrapped up in the scenarios created by the mind, we will be distracted.
As you stabilise more in the Self, you find and enjoy peace even in the midst of daily life. The sense ‘I’ in you becomes a synonym for peace and harmony. For such a one knows he is not just the body or mind, nor is the body-mind a mere container or an antenna for receiving the incessant noise and impressions of the world. Even amidst the worldly traffic of sensations, the awakened one remains unperturbed, abiding effortlessly in the silence of Being. The mind of an awakened one is like a space in which phenomena appear and disappear, yet nothing sticks.

When a man no longer confuses himself with the definition of himself that others have given him, he is at once universal and unique. He is universal by virtue of the inseparability of his organism from the cosmos. He is unique in that he is just this organism and not any stereotype of role, class, or identity assumed for the convenience of social communication.

~ Alan Watts

The individual  soul being unreal, it follows  that there  is no perceiver of the  world. This may be surprising;  but it need not  be so. The  seer and his spectacle are inseparable;  they are like the two ends of a single stick;  as a stick will always have two ends, so every perception involves the two, the seer and his spectacle.  The three, namely the seer, the spectacle and the relation of seeing form a triad, of which  the essential element is the  seeing, which becomes possible by the light of Consciousness; by that light both the seer and the seen are manifested. It is not possible to attribute reality to the seer, while denying it to the spectacle. If we accept the view that the spectacle, namely the world, is unreal in any sense, then we must also accept the view that the seer of the world is unreal in the same sense and to the same extent. The spectator is in fact an integral part of the world; both in waking and in dream the spectator and the spectacle form one single whole, appearing and vanishing together.

The Sage brings home to us the spurious nature of the ego - the individual soul - by means of a parable. On the occasion of a marriage an uninvited guest, an utter stranger to both the parties, came in pretending to be an intimate friend of the bridegroom. At first the hosts, namely the bride's party, believed him and honoured him accordingly.  But after a time suspicions arose and inquiries began to be made as to who he was and what right he had to come in. The two parties met and began to question each other. The impostor saw that he was sure to be exposed and treated as he deserved if he remained; so he quietly disappeared. Just like the impostor in this parable is the ego. It is neither the real  Self, nor the body; so long as no inquiry is made, the ego persists and enjoys the status of the real Self; but when an inquiry is made - when the quest of the real Self is begun and persisted in - it will vanish, leaving no trace. This is exactly what we are told by the Sage in verse -25 of 'Ulladu Narpadu.

- from 'Maha Yoga' (p-94,95), under the topic 'The Soul'.

- Om namo Bhagavate Sri Ramanaya!

A letter to a friend

The only sustainable relationship between two people is one in which both of you Individually reach for your Higher Selves. If someone is not willing to reach for the greatest, most Awesome, Loving & Productive version of themselves, you must lovingly move on - leaving them behind - trusting them to find their own way.

Just having a partner does not take away your loneliness, mind you! There are millions of people who have partners, soul mates, who have fallen in love and married the same person, and yet they feel lonely! Many may not come out and tell you honestly, but if you ask the ideal couples, "Tell me one secret, do you ever feel lonely or anything like that?" They will say, "Yes!" The only people who don’t feel lonely are the ones who are connected with the being, with the self. One who is established in the self feels no loneliness. Only spiritual elevation can take away the loneliness, not soul mates.

The sense of one's personal will is lost. That is enlightenment. Enlightenment means there is no "me" with a sense of personal doership. "I" can do nothing. Everything that happens is God's will. One-hundred percent acceptance of that—which is surrender to God's will—is enlightenment. That does not lead to enlightenment, that is itself enlightenment.

This world is a garden, a game, play this divine game very well. See things only as they are but do not possess them or you will be in trouble because even your body is transient.
The next breath is not guaranteed so do what you have to do Now: play well, play wisely, by first finding out who you are. Yoga only, no bhoga, first finish your work, then go to the world with a heart that is dancing. Don't use words for this dance because the game is tricky. Just be silent.

The world is like a tail of a dog, its nature is to curl.
The best you can do is to stay Quiet

Be always empty and let desires dance.

being asleep to desires and aversions.

The infinite universe exists because of consciousness.

Consciousness is the source of all there is. Without it, there is nothing. It is infinite and limitless.

The center of all things in the world is your consciousness.

Just meditate on the fact that you know ‘you are’. Your consciousness has to be realized. It is worth all the effort and penance.

The only instrument for liberation is your own consciousness. Realize it and offer it to Brahman.

Question:  How is that so much suffering comes to people who behave virtuously?

BHAGAVAN:  It is good if suffering comes to devotees. The dhobi ( washerman), when washing clothes, beats them hard against the rock. But he does so only to remove the dirt from the clothes. Similarly, all sufferings are given for the sole purpose of purifying the mind of the devotee. If we are patient, happiness will follow.

When a man develops pure sattva, he thinks only of God. He does not enjoy anything else. Some are born with pure sattva as a result of their prarabdha karma. Through unselfish action one finally acquires pure sattva. Sattva mixed with rajas diverts the mind to various objects. From it springs the conceit of doing good to the world. To do good to the world is extremely difficult for such an insignificant creature as man. But there is no harm in doing good to others in an unselfish spirit. This is called unselfish action. It is highly beneficial for a person to try to perform such action. But by no means all succeed, for it is very difficult. Everyone must work. Only one or two can renounce action. Rarely do you find a man who has developed pure sattva. Through disinterested action sattva mixed with rajas gradually turns into pure sattva.

No sooner does a man develop pure sattva than he realizes God, through His grace.

Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 4 Verse 18

One who sees inaction in action, and action in inaction, is intelligent among men, and he is in the transcendental position, although engaged in all sorts of activities.

.....

From ~~~Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi, Talk 96.

M.:
The ultimate Truth is so simple.
It is nothing more than being in the pristine state.
This is all that need be said.
Still, it is a wonder that to teach this simple Truth
there should come into being
so many religions, creeds, methods
and disputes among them and so on!
Oh the pity! Oh the pity!

Q.:
But people will not be content with simplicity;
they want complexity.

M.:
Quite so.
Because they want something elaborate
and attractive and puzzling,
so many religions have come into existence
and each of them is so complex
and each creed in each religion
has its own adherents and antagonists.

For example,
an ordinary Christian will not be satisfied
unless he is told that God is somewhere
in the far-off Heavens not to be reached
by us unaided.
Christ alone knew Him
and Christ alone can guide us.
Worship Christ and be saved.

If told the simple truth

- “The Kingdom of Heaven is within you” -

he is not satisfied and will read complex
and far-fetched meanings in such statements.

Mature minds alone
can grasp the simple Truth
in all its nakedness.

Significance of Bharat

Sadhguru: What kept us together longer than any other nation on the planet is that essentially, we have always been a land of seekers – seekers of truth and liberation. In this seeking, we found oneness. When we look for sameness, we try to become a land of believers. This seeking is not something that we invented. It is the nature of human intelligence to want to know, realize, and liberate itself.

This nation was based on this foundation that we are seekers. As a seeker, you are not aligned to a particular thing on the outside but to the life process within you, and that never goes wrong. No matter how badly you contaminate human beings with belief systems and brainwash them, once their survival is taken care of, they always want to know the nature of their existence and of everything around them. Whether you call it science, spiritual process, inquiry, or quest, essentially, human intelligence wants to transcend its present limitations, wants to liberate itself from the fetters in which we exist right now. We built our nation on this longing, this seeking. Our nationhood cannot be destroyed as long as we keep this seeking alive. If we do not try to transform ourselves towards sameness, we will always be one.

Gold is not an ornament, but the ornament is nothing but gold. Whatever shape the ornament  may assume and however different the ornaments are, there is only one reality, namely gold. So also with the bodies and the Self. The single reality is the Self.

To identify oneself with the body and yet to seek happiness is like attempting to cross a river on the back of an alligator. The body identity is due to extroversion and the wandering of the mind. To continue in that state will only keep one in an endless tangle and there will be no peace.

Seek your source, merge in the Self and remain all alone.- Ramana Maharshi (Talks 396)

The more we control thought, activity and food, the more we will be able to control sleep. But moderation ought to be the rule for the sadhak (aspirant), as explained in the Gita.
As explained in the Gita, sleep is the first obstacle for all sadhakas. The second obstacle is said to be vikshepa, or the sense objects of the world which divert one’s attention. The third is said to be kashaya or thoughts about previous experiences with sense objects. The fourth, ananda (bliss), is also called an obstacle, because in that state a feeling of separation from the source of ananda, making the enjoyer say, ‘I am enjoying ananda,' is present. Even this has to be surmounted, and the final stage of samadhana or samadhi has to be reached, where one becomes ananda, or One with the Reality, and the duality of enjoyer and enjoyment ceases in the ocean of Satchidananda (Existence-Consciousness-Bliss) or the Self.

The highest experience is when
everything disappears, even God.

Until this happens you will continue
to be reborn.

So forget everything,
even forgetting,
because forgetting and remembering
belong to the mind.

Without mind you can't see
your God, or Guru, or country, or parents.

Just don't give rise to identifying
as a body or mind or personality
and there will be no forgetting
or remembering.

First forget yourself which means
stop identifying as the body.

You are the Essence
which does not disappear.
Find it !

Q: I can understand that the outstanding events in a man's life, such as his country, nationality, family, career or profession, marriage, death, etc., are all predestined by his karma, but can it be that all the details of his life, down to the minutest, have already been determined? Now, for instance, I put this fan that is in my hand down on the floor here. Can it be that it was already decided that on such and such a day, at such and such an hour, I should move the fan like this and put it down here?

Sri Ramana Maharshi : Certainly.

Whatever this body is to do and
whatever experiences it is to pass through
was already decided when it came into existence.

Q: What becomes then of man's freedom and responsibility for his actions?

Sri Ramana Maharshi:

The only freedom man has is to strive for and
acquire the jnana
which will enable him not to identify himself with the body.

The body will go through the actions
rendered inevitable by prarabdha and
a man is free either to identify himself with the body and
be attached to the fruits of its actions,
or to be detached from it and
be a mere witness of its activities.

Q: So free will is a myth?

Sri Ramana Maharshi :

Free will holds the field in association with individuality.
As long as individuality lasts there is free will.
All the scriptures are based on this fact and they advise directing the free will in the right channel.
Find out to whom free will or destiny matters.

Find out where they come from, and abide in their source.
If you do this, both of them are transcended.
That is the only purpose of discussing these questions.
To whom do these questions arise?
Find out and be at peace.

If you are unhappy you need to check if one of these is lacking: Tapa (penance), Vairagya (dispassion), Sharanagati (surrender).

- Tapas is agreeing with the moment, total acceptance of pleasant or unpleasant situations.

- Vairagya means I want nothing and I am nothing.

- Sharanagati is "I am here for You, for Your joy."

If you are grumbling then these are lacking, because when you accept the situation you cannot grumble; when you take it as Tapa you will not grumble; when you come from a state dispassion ("I don't want anything") you don't grumble; and if you are surrendered you will have no complaints.

All these three (Tapas, Vairagya and surrender) purify your mind and uplift you in joy

"SUMMA IRU"

Silence is said to be the Highest teaching of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi.
For those who are not able reap the full benefit of this Silence, He prescribed "Summa Iru" which is supposed to be his highest 'Verbal Teaching'.
This has been variously translated as "Just Be", "Simply Be", "Keep Quiet", "Be Still".

Death is not our nature.
Our nature is eternity - to be free of death and rebirth,
of sorrow and suffering.

The perceiver can never be perceived and what is perceived, cannot be the perceiver.
It is only the One, cosmic awareness, that does the perceiving through all body-mind organisms.
