A Saint Passes Away
One day while Neem karoli Baba was talking to people at Haldwani Furniture Mart, he suddenly became absorbed in deep thought and remained silent for some time. Then he said faintly, "Pooran, give a spoonful of water to drink. He is in great agony." I could not understand what the matter was, but I nevertheless poured two spoonfuls of water into Baba's mouth.
After some time two tears fell from Baba's eyes, and he said to me,"Ramana" is no more. India has lost a great saint today." This incident occurred on the day that Ramana Maharshi left his physical body in Arunachala.

THE EGOLESS STATE
The mind, functioning as a distinct entity, almost completely effaces the happiness that is ours by nature, as the Self. But sometimes the mind ceases to obstruct, more or less, and then what seems to us an abundant measure of happiness comes to us. What happens is that the mind for a brief space becomes one with the Self — as in deep sleep — and then we are filled with happiness, as it were. This occasional union with the Self occurs whenever the mind’s unrest abates, by the fulfilment of some ardent desire, or the removal of some fear. This happiness is transitory, because there are other unsatisfied desires, which soon become active, and then the mind loses its hold on the Self. The Sage tells us that unhappiness is no other than this separation of the mind from the Self, and that happiness is just the return of the mind to its Source, the Self. The mind is active as mind when it is separate from the Self. To become aware of anything is to disconnect the mind from the Self, and that is unhappiness. Not to be aware of things or thoughts is happiness. For then we are the Self.
Maha Yoga Chapter 8
by K. Lakshmana Sarma
teaching
After sitting for some time in His presence, a devotee asked Sri Bhagavan, “Bhagavan, I am not able to do Self enquiry. I find it difficult. Shall I do dhyana instead ?” “All right”, replied Sri Bhagavan.
Soon afterwards the devotee left the hall, whereupon Sri Bhagavan turned to those near Him and said, “He says that Self-enquiry is difficult for him and that he cannot do it, so he asks me for permission to do dhyana. How can I compel him to do Self-enquiry when he himself says that he cannot do it? So when he wants to do dhyana, I have to say ‘All right’. He may come tomorrow and say, ‘Bhagavan, my mind does not remain in dhyana,
so shall I do japa?’ Again I will have to say ‘All right’. In the same manner, he will one day complain, ‘My mind does not remain quietly in japa. Only my tongue spells the mantra, but my mind wanders on many things. Shall I do worship (puja), recite hymns (stotras) and so on?’ What else can I do except to say All right, all right’ in reply to each and every complaint?
If one is able to make a sincere effort to practise anything, whether recitation of hymns, japa, dhyana or any other sadhana, one can, with the same effort, practise Self-enquiry ! All these complaints are made only by those who do not earnestly like to do any sadhana, that’s all. What is essential in any sadhana is to try to bring back the running mind and fix it on one thing only’. Why then should it not be brought back and fixed in Self-attention? That alone is Self-enquiry (alma-vichara). That is all that is to be done!
Even in the Bhagavad Gita it is said:
Sanais sanai rupa ramed buddhya dhriti grihi taya
Atma samstham manah kritva nakim chidapi
chinta yet
which means, ‘By means of an extremely courageous intellect (power of discrimination), make the mind motionless little by little; fix the mind firmly in Self (atman) and never think of any other thing’ (chapter 6, verse 25)

Seeing god or self is only being the self.seeing is being.
Ramana
Seek the source of the mind,
and you find,
the mind does not
exist at all.
The mind, turned outwards,
results in thoughts and objects.
Turned inwards,
it becomes itself the Self.

Find the "presence", not the "present"!
The presence is timeless. The present is time bound. The present is fluid, is memory, is mind, is an idea.
People say, "the past is unreal, the future is unreal, only the present, only here & now...", but the "here & now" is also unreal, is also an idea. Because you have touched it with your mind. So it becomes a bit dirty. Only seeing it from the timeless then everything is good.
Your Being is timeless.

mind
The mind is here to test you,
to try and create doubt in you,
to challenge your strength.
You must transcend every doubt
concerning who you are.
Doubts about other things you can afford,
but doubts about yourself,
you must clarify until delusions end.
You are the immutable awareness,
not the psychological mind.
As soon as you are clear about this,
mind begins to merge with you
as the single Being.

White Fire ~ Second Edition
14
When the mind is kept away from its preoccupations, it becomes quiet. If you do not disturb this quiet and stay in it, you find that it is permeated with a light and a love you have never known; and yet you recognize it at once as your own nature. Once you have passed through this experience, you will never be the same (wo)man again; the unruly mind may break its peace and obliterate its vision; but it is bound to return, provided the effort is sustained; until the day when all bonds are broken, delusions and attachments end and life becomes supremely concentrated in the present.

When the "individual seeker" understands that he, the individual, is not the seeker, that the only seeker is God, or Consciousness, then the seeking stops. When there is total acceptance, then the seeking stops. This is the understanding. This is what the seeking is all about. The seeking is to understand that there never was a seeker.

If you seek reality you must set yourself free of all backgrounds, of all cultures, of all patterns of thinking and feeling. Even the idea of being man or woman, or even human should be discarded. The ocean of life contains all, not only humans. So, first of all abandon all self-identification, stop thinking of yourself as such-and-such or so-and-so, this or that. Abandon all self-concern, worry not about your welfare, material or spiritual, abandon every desire, gross or subtle, stop
thinking of achievement of any kind. You are complete here and now, you need absolutely nothing.
Nisarg datta

Everything and everyone have to be abandoned at some point. All possessions and all relationships will leave you. No matter how much love you have for a person, that relationship, will go one day because it is not who you are. Who you are never goes, never leaves.
So what is your nature? It is 'I am'. Not 'I am this' or 'I am that'.
Let your will burn in this fire so that it takes you nowhere else. Let your self be burned in this fire of eternity, love and peace. Don't be afraid of this fire, it is love itself. This desire for freedom is the fire of love!

If we pay too much attention to things we will keep on seeing things. If you pay more attention to the space in which things
come and go, then you stop seeing things and you ll feel just a harmony with the space itself!

What do you mean by taking "sannyasa"?
Do you think it means
leaving your home or
wearing robes of a certain colour?
Wherever you go,
even if you fly up into the air,
will your mind not go with you?
Or can you leave it behind you
and go without it?

Silence is the true upadesa. It is the perfect upadesa. It is suited only for the most advanced seeker. The others are unable to draw full inspiration from it. Therefore they require words to explain the Truth. But Truth is beyond words. It does not admit explanation. All that is possible to do is only to indicate It. How is that to be done?
The people are under an illusion. If the spell is removed they will realize the Truth. They must be told to relize the falsity of the illusion. Then they will try to escape its snares. Vairagya will result. They will enquire into the Truth, i.e. seek the Self. That will make them abide as the Self.
