Talk.532

D: Is there no way of escape from the miseries of the world ?

M: There is only one way and that consists in not losing sight of one's Self under any circumstances.

To enquire " Who am I ?" is the only remedy for all the ills of the world. It is also perfect bliss.

quotes 11

At the end of the day you will not remember the person with the most beautiful face but you will remember the person with the most beautiful heart and soul.

quotes 10

The mind will shine as the Self if the mind be denuded of those thoughts now crowding it, and then all sense of duality will cease to exist.

Mind is nothing but sectional knowledge as this and that. Eliminate such, and then pure knowledge will alone remain. This is the Self.

~ Sri Dattatreya in 'Tripura Rahasya', chapter XVIII, verses 131-132

quotes 9

“The deeper the Self-realization of a person, the more they influence the whole universe by their subtle spiritual vibrations, and the less they themselves are affected by the phenomenal flux.”

~ Paramhansa Yogananda.

quotes 8

"He is the eternal Child and the universe is His playground; we are all His playmates. If we forget that it is a play, and take it seriously, then all sufferings come."

(Gauda Karika)

quotes 7

Bayazid says:

Love, is in its essence a divine gift, not anything that can be acquired. 'If the whole world wished to attract love, they could not; and if they made the utmost efforts to repel it, they could not.' Those who love God are those whom God loves.

'I fancied that I loved Him,' says a Sufi, 'but on consideration I saw that His love preceded mine. Love signifies the passing away of the individual self; it is an uncontrollable rapture, a Godsend grace which must be sought by ardent prayer and aspiration.

quotes 6

The noise of the lover is only while he has not seen his Beloved. Once he sees the beloved, he becomes calm and quiet, just as the rivers are boisterous before they join the ocean, but when they do so, they are becalmed forever.

quotes 5

The Highest Realization Is That - Everything is happening according to God's Will. Everything. God is behind everything. We are all puppets. He pulls a string, I raise my hand this way; another string, I raise my hand another way. He drops the string, my arm drops.

So we are all puppets. If we realize that, why should we worry about the role we are playing? If He wants you to play that part, play it. No part is big or small. Only by knowing this truth can you become great. It is immaterial where you are what you are doing.

The great saint Thaimanuvar said, "Don't worry about which is better, monastic life or householder life. Both are equally good if only you know one secret. What is that secret? We are all tops. There is one Player. He simply winds the string around and pulls it, and then we spin. Depending on how tightly the rope is wound and how fast He plays, you rotate for a while and then you fall down."

It's not how you present yourself, what you call yourself, what you do for a job that's important. The most important thing is: Do you know that you are nothing but a top and that at any moment your swinging could stop? The highest realization is that. Know that every minute that great Presence is in you, functioning through you, and you are nothing but an instrument.

~Swami Satchitananda

quotes 5

“Divine happiness, even the tiniest particle of a grain of it, never leaves one again; and when one attains to the essence of things and finds one’s Self–this is supreme happiness. When it is found, nothing else remains to be found; the sense of want will not awaken anymore, and the heart’s torment will be stilled forever. Do not be satisfied with fragmentary happiness, which is invariably interrupted by shocks and blows of fate; but become complete, and having attained to perfection, be YOURSELF.”

- Sri Anandamayi Ma

quotes 4

Rumi says that Divine Love is the root of all obedience; all else is mere adornment. If you do not sacrifice, how can you gain your heart’s desire? Giving up everything leads to annihilation, the source of all pleasures where no separation exists.

To be wholly without desire - that is not a natural desire, since a person must empty themselves and cease to be. But to allow not even an itch of desire to enter the heart—that is not within the scope of anyone. Only God’s love can take that out.

quotes 3

"Any residue [in the mind] gradually dissolves as your identification with the sense of personhood weakens...So don't feed all these little things that come up in your mind, because that will only turn them into a story. Remember: there are no stories in the Self."  ~Mooji (Vaster Than Sky, Greater Than Space)

From the book The Garland of Guru's Sayings

334. Hiding His own Form, taking another form as a human being, Lord Shiva (the Supreme Being) enters the group of His enlightened devotees, who have staunch devotion to Him, as if He were one among them, taking immense pleasure in their holy company.

Sri Muruganar (author of these verses): Thus Sri Bhagavan indirectly tells us that the Sadguru is none but Shiva Himself.

When Realization dawns, then what happens? You are no longer 'you'. You remain established in the inner silence and freedom without any concern for your welfare, content with whatever comes along -- and life goes on in perfect effortlessness.

When you see, that you have no control over the results, you stop worrying about the results and concentrate on the work that is being done.

~ Ramesh Balsekar
