THE EGOLESS STATE 

The mind, functioning as a distinct entity, almost completely effaces the happiness that is ours by nature, as the Self. But sometimes the mind ceases to obstruct, more or less, and then what seems to us an abundant measure of happiness comes to us. What happens is that the mind for a brief space becomes one with the Self — as in deep sleep — and then we are filled with happiness, as it were. This occasional union with the Self occurs whenever the mind’s unrest abates, by the fulfilment of some ardent desire, or the removal of some fear. This happiness is transitory, because there are other unsatisfied desires, which soon become active, and then the mind loses its hold on the Self. The Sage tells us that unhappiness is no other than this separation of the mind from the Self, and that happiness is just the return of the mind to its Source, the Self. The mind is active as mind when it is separate from the Self. To become aware of anything is to disconnect the mind from the Self, and that is unhappiness. Not to be aware of things or thoughts is happiness. For then we are the Self.

Whenever you have the chance, laugh as much as you can.

By this all the rigid knots in your body will be loosened. But to laugh superficially is not enough: your whole being must be united in laughter, both inwardly and outwardly. Do you know how this is expressed?

You literally shake with merriment from head to foot, so that it is impossible to tell which part of your body is most affected.

What you usually do is laugh with your mouth, while your emotions are held in check. But I want you to laugh with your whole countenance, with your whole heart and with all the breath of your life.

Everything and everyone have to be abandoned at some point. All possessions and all relationships will leave you. No matter how much love you have for a person, that relationship, will go one day because it is not who you are. Who you are never goes, never leaves. 

So what is your nature? It is 'I am'. Not 'I am this' or 'I am that'. 

Let your will burn in this fire so that it takes you nowhere else. Let your self be burned in this fire of eternity, love and peace. Don't be afraid of this fire, it is love itself. This desire for freedom is the fire of love!

उपनिषद का अर्थ होता है: गुरु के पास बैठना। उप निषद। पास बैठना। बस, इतना ही अर्थ है उपनिषद का। गुरु के पास मौन होकर बैठना; जिसने जाना है, उसके पास शून्य होकर बैठना। और उस बैठने में ही हृदय से हृदय आंदोलित हो जाते हैं। उस बैठने में ही सत्संग फल जाता है। जो नहीं कहा जा सकता, वह कहा जाता है। जो नहीं सुना जा सकता, वह सुना जाता है। हृदय की वीणा बज उठती है। जिसने जाना है, उसकी वीणा बज रही है। जिसने नहीं जाना है, वह अगर पास सरक आए तो उसके तारों में भी टंकार हो जाती है।

संगीतज्ञों का यह अनुभव है, अगर एक ही कमरे में--खाली कमरे में--सिर्फ दो वीणाएं रखी जाएं, द्वार-दरवाजे बंद हों और एक वीणा पर वीणावादक तार छेड़ दे, संगीत उठा दे, तो दूसरी वीणा जो कोने में रखी है, जिसको उसने छुआ भी नहीं, उस वीणा के तार भी झंकृत होने लगते हैं, एक वीणा बजती है तो हवाओं में आंदोलन हो जाता है, हवाओं में संगीत-लहरी फैल जाती है, स्पंदन हो जाता है। वह स्पंदन जिस वीणा को छुआ भी नहीं है, उसके भीतर भी सोए संगीत में हलचल मचा देता है। उसके तार भी जैसे नींद से जाग आते हैं, जैसे सुबह हो गयी।

आज से डेढ़ सौ वर्ष पहले एक वैज्ञानिक ने पहली दफा इस सिद्धांत को खोला। वह इसे कोई नाम न दे सका। फिर अभी कुछ वर्षों पहले, कोई चालीस वर्ष पहले कार्ल गुस्ताव जुंग नाम के बहुत बड़े मनोवैज्ञानिक ने इसे नाम दिया: "सिंक्रानिसिटी।'। जिस वैज्ञानिक ने पहली दफा यह खोज की थी, वह एक पुराने किले में मेहमान था, एक राजा के घर मेहमान था। और जिस कमरे में वह था, दो घड़ियां उस कमरे में एक ही दीवाल पर लटकी हुई थीं। पुराने ढब की घड़ियां। मगर वह हैरान हुआ यह बात जान कर कि उनका पेंडुलम एक साथ घूमता है। मिनिट और सेकेंड भी भिन्न नहीं। सेकेंड सेकेंड वे एक साथ चलतीं। इन दो घड़ियों के बीच उसे कुछ ऐसा तालमेल दिखायी पड़ा--वैज्ञानिक था, सोच में पड़ गया! कि इस तरह की दो घड़ियां उसने देखी नहीं जिनमें सेकेंड का भी फर्क न हो। तो उसने एक काम किया, कि यह संयोग हो सकता है, उसने एक घड़ी बंद कर दी रात को। और दूसरे दिन सुबह शुरू की और दोनों के बीच कोई तीन-चार मिनिट का फासला रखा। चौबीस घंटे पूरे होते-होते दोनों घड़ियां फिर साथ-साथ डोल रही थीं। बराबर, सेकेंड-सेकेंड करीब आ गये थे, पेंडुलम फिर साथ-साथ लयबद्ध हो गये थे। तब तो यह चमत्कृत हो गया। राज क्या है? आया था दिन-दो दिन के लिए, लेकिन सप्ताहों रुका--जब तक राज न खोज लिया।

राज यह था कि वह जिस दीवाल पर लटकी थी, उस पर कान लगा-लगा कर वह सुनता रहा कि क्या हो रहा है, तब उसे समझ में आया कि एक घड़ी के पेंडुलम टीक्-टीक्, जो बड़ी घड़ी थी उसकी टिक्-टीक् दीवाल के द्वारा दूसरी घड़े के पेंडुलम को भी संचालित कर रही है, उसमें एक लयबद्धता पैदा कर रही है। और बड़ी घड़ी इतनी बलशाली है कि छोटी घड़ी करे भी तो क्या करे! वह छोटी सहज ही उसके साथ लयबद्ध हो जाती है।

उसने इसको सिर्फ लयबद्धता कहा था। लेकिन जुंग ने इसे पूरा वैज्ञानिक आधार दिया और " सिंक्रानिसिटी' कहा; और सिर्फ घड़ियों के लिए नहीं, जीवन के समस्त आयामों में इस लयबद्धता के सिद्धांत को स्वीकार किया।

रहस्यवादी तो इस सिद्धांत से हजारों वर्षों से परिचित हैं। सत्संग का यही राज है, "सिंक्रानिसिटी'। सदगुरु यूं समझो कि बड़ी घड़ी, कि बड़ा सितार। शिष्य यूं। समझो कि छोटी घड़ी, छोटा सितार। और शिष्य अगर राजी हो, श्रद्धा से भरा हो और बड़े सितार के पास सिर्फ बैठ रहे, कुछ न करे, तो भी उसके तार झंकृत हो जाएंगे।

क्रोध पर विजय (प्रतिकार स्वरूप) क्रोध न कर के ही प्राप्त हो सकती है तथा दुष्टता पर विजय सौम्य स्वाभाव तथा सद्व्यवहार द्वारा ही होती है। कंजूसी की प्रवृत्ति पर विजय दान देने से ही सम्भव होती है और झूठ बोलने के प्रवृत्ति पर सत्यवादिता से ही विजय प्राप्त होती हैं।

All of the gods that you've been praying to all of your life, all of the buddhas you've taken refuge in, the krishnas, the Kali-mas, the Shivas, the Christ, Allah, they're all within you. You are that! There is no god that is external to you. There is no Buddha and god and you. There is only the one Self and you are that. Ponder this.

The knowledge of this brings you eternal infinite happiness, instantly. When you begin to understand who you are, your divine nature, that you are not the body, you are not the mind. Once you understand your infinite nature, who you really are and there is nothing else, you immediately become instantly happy. For happiness is your very nature. Happiness, the Self, are synonymous. Consciousness, absolute reality, pure awareness, are all synonymous. There is only one, has many names. But the one pervades all of space and time. That is the only existence and you are that. There is no other existence. Awaken to this truth. You are the only one that doesn't exist and you are consciousness.

Do you realize the implications?

This is what Moses meant in the old testament when he said, "The ground upon which I stand is holy ground." Everything is Brahman. Everything is God so-to-speak, everything. Nothing is excluded. When you truly understand this you have reverence for all of life, everything. You have reverence for the animals, the vegetables, the minerals, the human beings, the astral bodies, causal bodies. Everything that exists is Brahman. It's wonderful. What peace this gives you, what joy this gives you.

What is there in mere scholarship? God can be attained by crying to Him with a longing heart.  There is no need to know many things.
