desire

Avoid desire and aversion.
Do not engage the mind much in the affairs of the world. As far as possible do not get entangled in the affairs of others.

Giving to others is really giving to oneself. If one knows this truth, would one ever
remain without giving?

If ego rises, all will rise. If the ego merges, all will merge.

The more we are humble, the better it is for us.

- GEMS from Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi

birth mind

Talk 244

Maharshi: Why should one think of birth and death? Are you really born? The rising of the mind is called birth. After mind the body-thought arises and the body is seen; then the thought of birth, the state before birth, death, the state after death - all these are only of the mind. Whose is the birth?

Devotee: Am I not now born?

Maharshi: So long as the body is considered, birth is real. But the body is not ‘I’. The Self is not born nor does it die. There is nothing new. The Sages see everything in and of the Self. There is no diversity in it. Therefore there is neither birth nor death.

awareness

3. What is the nature of Awareness?
The nature of Awareness is existence-consciousness-bliss

4. When will the realization of the Self be gained?
When the world which is what-is-seen has been removed, there will be realization of the Self which is the seer.

5. Will there not be realization of the Self even while the world is there (taken as real)?
There will not be.

6. Why?
The seer and the object seen are like the rope and the snake. Just as the knowledge of the rope which is the substrate will not arise unless the false knowledge of the illusory serpent goes, so the realization of the Self which is the substrate will not be gained unless the belief that the world is
real is removed.

What does it matter if the mind is active? It is so only on the substratum of the Self.

Hold the Self

even during mental activities.

attention

"Let attention go to manifestation,
just know that manifestations is Brahman.

Let there be creations and destructions,
All is Brahman and you are beyond even that always."

death

Dying to your own attachments is a beautiful death. Because this death releases you into real life. You have to die as a seed to live as a tree. ~Mooji

be as you are

Q: Are our attempts sure to succeed?

Sri Ramana Maharshi :

Realization is our nature.
It is nothing new to be gained.

What is new cannot be eternal.
Therefore there is no need for doubting whether one could lose or gain the Self.

Q: Is it good to do japa when we know that enquiry into the Self is the real thing?

Sri Ramana Maharshi :

All methods are good since they will lead to the enquiry eventually.

Japa is our real nature.

When we realize the Self then japa goes on without effort.

What is the means at one stage becomes the goal at another.

When effortless constant japa goes on, it is realization.

self

Everyone is the Self, indeed infinite.
Yet each one mistakes the  body for the Self.

To know anything, illumination is necessary.
Such illuminating agency can only be in the form of light which is however lighting the physical light and darkness. So then that other  Light lies beyond the apparent light and darkness. It is itself neither  light nor darkness but is said to be Light because It illumines both.
It is also Infinite and remains as Consciousness.

Consciousness is  the Self of which everyone is aware.
No one is away from the Self.
So each one is Self-realised.
Yet what a mystery that no one knows
this fundamental fact, and desires to realise the Self?

This ignorance is due to the mistaking of the body for the Self.
Realisation now consists in getting rid of this false idea that one  is not realised. Realisation is not anything newly got. It must  be already there in order that it may be permanent. Otherwise  Realisation is not worth attempting.

After the false notion ‘I-am-the-body’ or ‘I have not realised’  is removed, Supreme Consciousness or the Self alone is left
over, which is however called Realisation in the present state of  knowledge.

However, the truth is that Realisation is eternal and  already there, here and now.
Finally, Realisation amounts to elimination of ignorance and  nothing more or less.

nothing

When the mind is relinquished (give up) , everything is forgotten, and "nothing" remains. That nothingness is the causal body (Karana-deha). This is the "Night of Ignorance." Beyond this is the kingdom of Mahadeva. If we study this forgetfulness deeply, we can experience that there is this nothing that is called the causal body. When all is forgotten, and this nothing remains, then you must also give up that very nothing. When all is gone, all is thrown aside, what remains is you, yourself. This Consciousness is Brahman. He is the knower of the three worlds; the waking state, the dream state and the deep sleep state.

.

The dream comes and goes, the deep sleep comes and goes, and even the waking state comes and goes. Knowledge of things comes and goes, and Knowledge itself comes and then goes away. Every thing that comes, goes away, yet you remain. That which is changeless and eternal is "You." You witness all of these states. Any taste that comes is sure to go. Any pleasure enjoyed has gone. You may understand anything, but that which you understand does not remain. It is all in the Illusion and thereby mortal.

.

Anything that is of this realm, whatever is enjoyed, whatever is experienced, even Knowledge, is not immortal.

.

Only the "Man of Self-Knowledge," the Jnani, enjoys the "Nectar of Immortality."

cloud or no cloud you are self

Clouds are moving; light is changing;
but the infinite sky remains, untouched.

Waves are dancing; waves are
playing; this is natural. They do not disturb the ocean. They are made of ocean itself.

Therefore: Do not fight or struggle to
control or suppress thoughts; let them
play like the waves on the surface of the ocean.
You are the ocean, Being, Itself.

It has always been so. It has always been like this.
You will not change this now.

Let everything Dance. Let this Creation continue
creating, playing, unfolding.
It is doing that in your own Presence.

You are pure, immaculate Awareness.
