The grace can arise within you and show you who you are, but most people don’t understand this power, don’t understand the language in which is trying to speak to you. 
When this happens the Self arranges for you to meet someone who will speak to you in your own language, someone who will apprise you of the fact that the Self is within you, and that you have to seek it there. 
This is the grace of the Guru. 
Even when the grace comes from what is apparently an ‘outside’ source, the form of the Guru, it is still only pointing to the Self within, the power that will take you into the Self.
