Silence

You must come to the place of total silence
beyond the sense of ‘someone’ being silent.
In our natural state, we are already beyond the play of mind.
In our display as consciousness and as the evolutionary being,
which we call in its highest aspect the ‘seeker of truth’,
we are that which is in transit and transformation all the time.
But I am pointing that however many times we are transmuting and transforming,
it is being watched from a deeper consciousness, who can refute it?
And is this deeper place of seeing to be overlooked and discarded?
Or could it not be the answer of answers?
But who will receive this answer?
The one who receives that answer
dies in that moment to the infections of duality.

Be as you are

From ~~~ Ramana Smrti, P. 201.

Once a visitor started weeping suddenly
and cried out that he was a horrible sinner
who could not reform himself.

He asked Bhagavan if there was any hope for him
and declared that Bhagavan was his Guru
and as his Master he must save him.

On his insistence Bhagavan told him
that fees were due to the Master.
The man said he would give him all his merit
and whatever good he had done.
Bhagavan told him that was not enough
and demanded his sins too.
The man was aghast and refused to offer his sins.
But Bhagavan was adamant.
He said,
“Either give me your sins along with your merits,
or keep both and don’t think of me as your Master”.

Finally the visitor surrendered and declared
that he was giving away all his sins
and their results to Ramana.

Bhagavan said,
“From now on
there is no good or bad in you.
You are just pure.
Go and do nothing,
neither good nor bad.
Remain yourself,
remain what you are”.

A great peace fell over the man and over us all.
He was never seen in the Ashram again.

This was not an isolated incident.
To everyone who deplored his sins
Bhagavan said,
“What do you know about yourself?
What do you know about good and evil
except what is in your mind?
When you see
that the mind invents everything,
all will vanish.
The good will vanish,
the evil will vanish
and you will remain as you are”.

Thus Bhagavan was most tender with people
who thought themselves for some reason or other
to be miserable sinners,
and went to him torn by repentance.

Desire

Control of desire and meditation are interdependent. They must go on side by side. Abhyas and vairagya bring about the result. Vairagya is to check the mind being projected out; abhyas is to keep it turned inward. There is the struggle between control and meditation. It is going on constantly within. Meditation will in due course be successful. [Talk 220]

Truth

Awareness is beyond mind, much beyond it.
Mind gives you doubts, fears, and worry,
and keeps you unaware of That beyond the mind.
The role of mind in the play
is to keep the person in the dark, in the past.
Where there is no mind there is no time or past.
This is the Ultimate Truth.

Mind arises and assumes the shape of your
hidden tendencies. Mind cannot think.
It is you who think by identifying with thought.

Never Mind Mind

The minute you identify with your mind, with thoughts, with emotions,
with whatever is arising in the space of pure awareness,
it is as though you open a door for bad company.

When there is an earthquake under the ocean, lots of bubbles are coming up.
They flow up to the surface then they pop and are gone.

Don’t watch the bubbles and say, 'Oh no! That’s a big bubble!'

Don’t become invested or involved with what is coming up, burping up.
You are detoxing. You just be at the burping place.

Grace is taking all these things out.
Trust where you are, and that Grace is with you.

Express yourself completely,
then keep quiet.

If you open yourself to the Tao,

then trust your natural responses;
and everything will fall into place.
