Self

Devotee.: It is not necessary that the saints should mix with people and be helpful to them?
Maharshi.: The Self alone is the Reality; the world and the rest of it are not. The realised being does not see the world as different from himself.

Enjoy your life

Enjoy your life as much as you can and when you have enjoyed everything you will know that there must be something else beyond the transitory enjoyments of the world. All those enjoyments need bones and leather, but there is a happiness which does not depend on them. When you find this happiness you will sit Quiet and you will not go back to the cemetery which is filled with only bones. Most people stay in the cemetery everyday. Once you know this you will be attracted to the bliss which will continually pull you deeper and deeper into it. Don't worry. Simply stay Quiet here and don't let your mind go back to the previous disturbances. Whenever the mind goes out pounce on it so that it doesn't go back to the previous disturbances. Be a lion.

Samadhi

SAMADHI

Q: Is silence an attribute of the real?

M: This too is of the mind. All states and conditions are of the mind.

Q: What is the place of samadhi?

M: Not making use of one's consciousness is samadhi. You just leave your mind alone. You want nothing, neither-from your body nor from your mind.

Ramana says

CONSCIOUS IMMORTALITY

Q: There is nothing to be seen in the ReaL?

M: Because you are accustomed to identifying yourself with the body, and sight with the eyes, you say you do not see anything.

What is there to be seen?
Who is there to see?
How do you see?

There is only one Consciousness, which manifests as the ‘I’-thought, identifies itself with the body, projects itself through the eyes and sees the objects around.

The individual is limited in the waking state and expects to see something different. The evidence of his senses will be the seal of authority, But he will not admit that the seer, the seen and the sight are all manifestations of the same Consciousness.

Meditation helps to remove the illusion that the Self must
be visual. How do you see the ‘I’ now? Do you hold a mirror in front of yourself to know your own being?

The awareness is the ‘I’. Realize that: it is the Truth.

Bhagwat geeta

Bhagavad Gita

Of these, the wise one who is in full knowledge in union with Me through pure devotional service is the best. For I am very dear to him, and he is dear to Me.

PURPORT
Free from all contaminations of material desires, the distressed, the inquisitive, the penniless, and the seeker after supreme knowledge can all become pure devotees. But out of them, he who is in knowledge of the Absolute Truth and free from all material desires becomes a really pure devotee of the Lord. And of the four orders, the devotee who is in full knowledge and is at the same time engaged in devotional service is, the Lord says, the best. By searching after knowledge one realizes that his self is different from his material body, and when further advanced he comes to the knowledge of impersonal Brahman and Paramātmā. When one is fully purified, he realizes that his constitutional position is to be the eternal servant of God. So by association with pure devotees, the inquisitive, the distressed, the seeker after material amelioration and the man in knowledge all become themselves pure. But in the preparatory stage, the man who is in full knowledge of the Supreme Lord and is at the same time executing devotional service is very dear to the Lord. He who is situated in pure knowledge of the transcendence of the Supreme Personality of God is so protected in devotional service that material contaminations cannot touch him.

Conscious immortality

CONSCIOUS IMMORTALITY

Meditation on the Self is our natural state. It is only because we find it hard that we imagine it to be an arbitrary and extraordinary state.

We are all unnatural.

The mind resting in the Self is its natural condition, but instead of that, our minds are fixed in outward objects.

After getting rid of name and form, and dwelling on Existence-Knowledge-Bliss, be careful not to allow their reentry to the mind.

During meditation on the Self, the thoughts actually die down of their own accord. Meditation can be directed to various objects, but when directed to the true Self, it is sent to the highest object, or rather the true subject.

P. 67

Silent

If one can remain silent and still, all concepts vanish and reality is experienced as it is. It is only the inner core of our being. What is required is simple self-awareness.

Spiritual quotes

Q: There is more pleasure in dhyana than in sensual enjoyments. Yet the mind runs after the latter and does not seek the former. Why is it so?

Sri Ramana Maharshi :

Pleasure or pain are aspects of the mind only.
Our essential nature is happiness.

But we have forgotten the Self and imagine that the body
or the mind is the Self.

It is that wrong identity that gives rise to misery.
What is to be done?
This mental tendency is very ancient and has continued for innumerable past births.

Hence it has grown strong.
That must go before the essential nature, happiness, asserts itself.
