वेद-सार शिव स्तोत्र  


 पशूनां पतिं पापनाशं परेशं गजेन्द्रस्य कृत्तिं वसानं वरेण्यम् ।
जटाजूटमध्ये स्फुरद्गाड्गवारि महादेवमेकं स्मरामि समरामि ॥ १ ॥

[I meditate only on that great God, Who is the lord of all beings, Who is the destroyer of sins, Who is the lord of heaven, Who wears the hide of the king of elephants And who keeps river ‘Ganga’ in the middle of his hair...]

महेशं सुरेशं सुरारार्तिनाशं विभूं विश्वनाथं विभूत्यङ्गभूषम् ।
विरूपाक्षमिन्द्वर्कवह्नित्रिनेत्रं सदानन्दमीडे प्रभुं पञ्चवक्त्रम् ॥ २ ॥

[I pray that Lord of lords with faces five, who is the greatest God, Who is the God of devas, Who is the enemy of Asuras, Who is scholar of philosophy, Who is the lord of the universe, Who anoints himself totally with ash And who has sun, moon and fire as eyes...]

गिरीशं गणेशं गले नीलवर्णं गवेन्द्राधिरूढं गणातीत रूपम् ।
भवं भास्वरं भस्मना भूषिताङ्गं भवानीकत्रं भजे पञ्चवक्त्रम् ॥ ३ ॥

[I worship the five-faced lord who has bhavaani as his wife, who is the lord of mountains, the lord of each and every individual, blue-throated, seated on the bull, beyond gunas, who is the world and the lord of the world with snakes as his ornaments...]

शिवाकान्त शभ्भो शशाङ्कार्धमौले महेशान शूलिन् जटाजूट धारिन् ।
त्वमेको जगद्व्यापको विश्वरूप प्रसीद् प्रसीद् प्रभो पूर्णरूप ॥ ४ ॥

[Be kind to me. Be kind to me, Oh, Lord, Who has a fully complete mien, Who is the consort of Goddess Uma, Who keeps the moon crescent with himself, Who is the God who carries the great spear, Who has unkempt grown hair, Who is the only one pervading all over And who has a form which encompasses the universe...]

परात्मानमेकं जगद्बीजमाद्यं निरीहं निराकारमोङ्कारवेधम् ।
यतो जायते पाल्यते येन विश्वं तमीशं भजे लीयते यत्र विश्वम् ॥ ५ ॥

[I worship that God, Who is the Paramathma, Who is the seed of the world, Who does not have any desires, Who does not have any shape, Who can be known through ‘Om’, Who creates and looks after the world And merges it within him...]

न भूमिर्न चापो न वह्निर्न वायुर्न चाकाशमास्ते न तन्द्र न निद्रा ।
न ग्रीषमो न शीतं न देशो न वेशो न यस्यास्ति मूर्तिस्त्रिमूतिं तमीडे ॥ ६ ॥

[I pray and praise that God Who is the trimurty, And who is not affected by Earth, water, fire, wind, Ether, thanthra, nidhra, Heat, cold, place of stay and attire...]

अजं शाश्वतं कारणं कारणानां शिवं केवलं भासकं भासकानाम् ।
तुरीयं तमःपारमाद्यन्तहीनं प्रपद्ये परं पावनं द्वैतहीनम् ॥ ७ ॥

[I praise that most holy God, Who does not have any birth, Who is permanent, Who is the cause of all causes, Who is peaceful, Who is the light of all lights, Who is thureeya, the other side of ignorance, Who does not have either end or beginning And who does not have any divisions...]

नमस्ते नमस्ते विभो विश्वमूर्ते नमस्ते नमस्ते चिदानन्दमूर्ते ।
नमस्ते नमस्ते तपोयोगगम्य नमस्ते नमस्ते श्रुतिज्ञानगम्य ॥ ८ ॥

[Salutations and salutations, To the store house of knowledge and god of all worlds, Salutations and salutations, To him who should be known by meditation and Yoga, Salutations and salutations, To him who is the ever lasting bliss, Salutations and salutations To him who should be attained through Vedas...]

प्रभो शूलपाणे विभो विश्वनाथ महादेव शभ्भो महेश त्रिनेत्र ।
शिवाकान्त शान्त स्मरारे पुरारे त्वदन्यो वरेण्यो न मान्यो न गण्यः ॥ ९ ॥

[I worship the one and only lord who holds the trident, the lord of the entire world and the lord of Devas, the greatest lord with three eyes, who is the husband of Shiva(Gauri), who is serene and the destroyer of tripurasuras...]

शभ्भो महेश करुणामय शूलपाणे गौरिपते पशुपते पशुपाशनाशिन् ।
काशीपते करुणया जगदेतदेकस्त्वं हंसि पासि विदधासि महेश्वरोऽसि ॥ १० ॥

[O Shambhu, you are the supreme lord, kind-hearted, Gauri's husband, holding the trident and destroy Jeeva's paasha of this world, the lord of Kaashi, You are the One who creates this world, nourish this world and You only destroy this world as you are the lord of the Lords...]

त्वत्तो जगद् भवति देव भव स्मरारे त्वय्येव तिष्ठति जगन्मृड विश्वनाथ ।
त्वय्येव गच्छति लयं जगदेतदीश लिङ्गात्मकं हर चराचरविश्वरूपम् ॥ ११ ॥

[Salutations to the lord from whom this world originates, who is this world, in whom this world resides, who is the lord of the world, in whose Ling-roop this entire world merges at last...]

इति श्री जगद्गुरु शंकराचार्य विरचितं श्री वेद-सार शिव स्तव: सम्पूर्णं

Mind is like water

The saints say mind is like water. Just as the water flows downwards, the mind also flows downwards towards evil. However, just as effort has to be put in for pumping water upwards for storage, etc. Similarly efforts are necessary to make our minds concentrate on God.

A pump (a mechanical device) is required to lift the water upwards, similarly to lift our mind beyond the world and concentrate o...n God a Mantra (a spiritual device) is required.

Our mind gets easily involved where it is interested. As long as one finds enjoyment in worldly pursuits where one is experiencing pleasure he will not understand this phenomenon. It will remain involved in worldly affairs.

Then this world becomes meaningless and the cause of our attachment and consequent pain. Till it is understood that the world is futile and the cause of all our misery, one will continue to suffer. The worldly pleasures are illusionary. Real joy is in being one with the creator.

Life is a gift of God

Life is a gift of God, it is his prasad. Accept it wholeheartedly with love and gratefulness. We have got this human birth by God’s grace so that we may sing his glories. Tulsdasji says "Tan bin bed bhajan nahin barna" i.e. our body is an instrument; it is a means for singing the Lord’s glory (bhajan) which is the real purpose of our living. But bhajan also includes service to other people. Keep t...he Lord always in mind as much as is possible. View this world as a form of Lord Shri Krishna and serve other people. While serving do not nurse a feeling of obliging them but do it as a fulfillment of your duty.

Life is useless without love. Life’s other meaning is love. Where there is love and devotion (samarpan) and renunciation (tyaga) becomes natural. One does not have to make any special effort for it. It happens automatically. Without love, service and renunciation is not possible. Hence only where there is love, renunciation follows and where there is love and renunciation, service manifests.

Finally a true religion is one, which initiates you into the path of true love. A true dharma is that which fills you with this nectar (amrit) of love. Therefore dharma or religion is fundamental in life. "Dharmena hina pashubhih samaanaa." i.e. A man without religion is an animal.

।।शनि  मंत्र।।

नीलांजन समाभासं रवि पुत्रां यमाग्रजं।
छाया मार्तण्डसंभूतं तं नामामि शनैश्चरम्॥

Om Neelaanjan, Samabhaasam,
Raviputram, Yamaagrajam!
Chhaya martand, Sambhutam,
Tam namami shaneshcharam!!

Oh, Blue-bodied, looking like shadow of the sky, son of the Lord Sun, the younger brother of Lord Yama (the God of death), you are the son of mother Chhaya, I bow my head to you, Lord Shani!

श्री रूद्र अष्टकम – Sri Rudra Ashtakam
नमामीश मीशान निर्वाणरूपं विभुं व्यापकं ब्रह्मवॆद स्वरूपम् ।
निजं निर्गुणं निर्विकल्पं निरीहं चदाकाश माकाशवासं भजॆहम् ॥

O Īśāna! I pray You, Who is the lord of all, Who is in eternal Nirvāṇa-bliss, Who is resplendent, Who is omni-present, and Who is Brahman and Veda in totality. I adore You, Who is for self, Who is formless, Who is without change, Who is dispassionate, Who is like the sky (immeasurable), and Who lives in the sky.

निराकार मॊङ्कार मूलं तुरीयं गिरिज्ञान गॊतीत मीशं गिरीशम् ।
करालं महाकालकालं कृपालं गुणागार संसारसारं नतॊ हम् ॥
 I bow prostrate before You, Who is without a form, Who is the root of sounds, Who is the fourth impersonal state of the Ātman, Who is beyond the scope of tongue, knowledge and sense-organs, Who is the Lord, Who is the Lord of Himālaya, Who is fierce, Who is the destroyer of fierce Kāla, Who is benevolent, Who is the abode of qualities, and is beyond the universe.
तुषाराद्रि सङ्काश गौरं गम्भीरं मनॊभूतकॊटि प्रभा श्रीशरीरम् ।
स्फुरन्मौलिकल्लॊलिनी चारुगाङ्गं लस्त्फालबालॆन्दु भूषं महॆशम् ॥
I bow to You, Who is white like the snow, Who is profound, Who is mind, Who is in the form of living beings, Who has immense splendor and wealth. He has shining forehead with playful and enticing Gaṅgā, He has shiny forehead with a crescent moon, and He has snake garlands in the neck.
चलत्कुण्डलं भ्रू सुनॆत्रं विशालं प्रसन्नाननं नीलकण्ठं दयालुम् ।
मृगाधीश चर्माम्बरं मुण्डमालं प्रियं शङ्करं सर्वनाथं भजामि ॥
 I adore Saṅkara, Who has swaying earrings, Who has beautiful eye on the forehead, Who is spread out and large, Who is happy at face, Who has a blue-throat, Who is benevolent, Who has a lion-skin around His waist, Who has skull-cap garland, and Who is the dear Lord of everyone.
प्रचण्डं प्रकृष्टं प्रगल्भं परॆशम् अखण्डम् अजं भानुकॊटि प्रकाशम् ।
त्रयी शूल निर्मूलनं शूलपाणिं भजॆहं भवानीपतिं भावगम्यम् ॥

I adore the Lord of Bhavānī, Who is fierce, Who is immense, Who is mature and brave, Who is beyond everyone, Who is indivisible, Who is unborn, Who is resplendent like millions of sun, Who uproots the three qualities (and makes us dispassionate), Who holds a trident, and Who can be achieved with emotions.
कलातीत कल्याण कल्पान्तरी सदा सज्जनानन्ददाता पुरारी ।
चिदानन्द सन्दॊह मॊहापकारी प्रसीद प्रसीद प्रभॊ मन्मधारी ॥
 O Śiva, Who destroyed Kāmadeva, Who is beyond artwork, Who is auspicious, Who causes the end of the universe, Who always provides bliss to good people, Who destroyed Purāsura, Who is eternal bliss, and Who absolves abundant passion! O Lord! Please be happy, be happy.
न यावद् उमानाथ पादारविन्दं भजन्तीह लॊकॆ परॆ वा नाराणाम् ।
न तावत्सुखं शान्ति सन्तापनाशं प्रसीद प्रभॊ सर्वभूताधिवास ॥
 Those who don’t adore the lotus-feet of the Lord of Umā (Śiva), they don’t get happiness, comfort, and peace — in this world or the other worlds after death. O Śiva, Who is the abode of all the living beings! O Lord! Please be happy.
नजानामि यॊगं जपं नैव पूजां नतॊ हं सदा सर्वदा दॆव तुभ्यम् ।
जराजन्म दुःखौघतातप्यमानं प्रभॊपाहि अपन्नमीश प्रसीद! ॥
 I don’t know Yoga, Japa (chanting of names), or prayers. Still, I am bowing continuously and always to You. O Śambhu! O Lord! Save me from the unhappiness due to old age, birth, grief, sins, and troubles. I bow to You, Who is the Lord.
रुद्राष्टकमिदंम फरोक्त विप्रेण हरातोषये
ये पठंति भक्त्या तेषाम शंभू: प्रसीदती ॥
 ॥ ईति श्री गोस्वामि तुलसीदास कृतं श्री रुद्राष्टकम संपूर्णम ॥

Namaskar

Namaskar - Namaskaram literally means a salute; traditionally it is practiced from the childhood days, to train the children to respect the elders and also to pay obeisance to the Lord God in temples. It is a gesture of action used to indicate respect & reverence.
Traditional Hindu verbal greeting of Namasthe & Namaskar are a kind of Mudra posture, where the palms are joined together and held at ...the level of their chest. This Mudra is also known as "Anjali" Mudra. It is a kind of devotion and a gesture made equally before a temple Deity, Sadhus, Saints, Seers, Priests, or of any such holy person, learned scholars, teachers & Guru, elders and senior persons, or a newly acquainted elderly persons.

The word 'Namaskar' is derived from the root 'namaha', which means paying obeisance (Namaskar) or salutation. From Science of Justice - 'Namaha' is a physical action expressing that 'you are superior to me in all qualities and in every way'.

Worldly Benefits - By doing Namaskar to a deity or a Saint, unknowingly their virtues and capabilities are impressed upon our minds. Consequently we start emulating them, thus changing ourselves for the better.

Spiritual Benefits - Increase in humility and reduction of ego / Enhancement in the spiritual emotion of surrender and gratitude / Gaining the Sattva component and faster spiritual progress. We receive the highest amount of Sattva component from the posture (mudra) of Namaskar. By doing Namaskar to Deities or Saints we receive subtle frequencies emitted by them, e.g. frequencies of Sattva or Bliss.
