God's play

God was infinite omniscient Bliss; but, being alone, there was no one but Him to enjoy that Bliss. So He said, “Let Me create a universe and divide Myself into many souls that they may play with Me in my unfolding drama.” By His magical measuring power of maya He became dual: Spirit and Nature, man and woman, positive and negative.

But even though He has created the universe out of delusion, He himself is not deluded by it. He knows that everything is but a diversification of His one Cosmic Consciousness.

Experiences of the senses and emotions, the dramas of war and peace, sickness and health, life and death - are all happening in God as the Dreamer- Creator of all things, but He is unaffected by them.

One part of His infinite Being ever remains transcendent, beyond vibratory dualities: there God is inactive. When He vibrates His Consciousness with thoughts of diversity, He becomes immanent and omnipresent as the Creator in the finite vibratory realm of infinity: there He is active. Vibration brings forth objects and beings interacting in space in the motions of time - just as vibrations of man's Consciousness brings forth dreams in sleep.

God created this dream universe for entertaining Himself and us.

Liberation

Q: Is mukti the same as realization?

Sri Ramana Maharshi :

Mukti or liberation is our nature.
It is another name for us.
Our wanting mukti is a very funny thing.

It is like a man who is in the shade,
voluntarily leaving the shade, going into the sun,
feeling the severity of the heat there,
making great efforts to get back into the shade
and then rejoicing, `How sweet is the shade!
I have reached the shade at last!'

We are all doing exactly the same.
We are not different from the reality.
We imagine we are different,
that is we create the bheda bhava [the feeling of difference] and then undergo great sadhana [spiritual practices] to get rid of the bheda bhava and realize the oneness.
Why imagine or create bheda bhava and then destroy it?

Q: This can be realized only by the grace of the master. I was reading Sri Bhagavata. It says that bliss can be had only by the dust of the master's feet. I pray for grace.

Sri Ramana Maharshi : What is bliss but your own being ?
You are not apart from being which is the same as bliss.
You are now thinking that you are the mind or the body which are both changing and transient.
But you are unchanging and eternal.
That is what you should know.

Q: It is darkness and I am ignorant.

Sri Ramana Maharshi : This ignorance must go.
Again, who says `I am ignorant '?
He must be the witness of ignorance.
That is what you are.

Socrates said,
`I know that I do not know.'
Can it be ignorance?
It is wisdom.

Awareness of self become nature

First of all it is necessary to become acquainted with Him Whom you wish to invoke. Constantly think and talk of Him, look at his pictures, sing His praises or listen to sacred music, visit places of pilgrimage, seek solitude or associate with the holy and wise, so as to become familiar with Him. When this has been achieved, you may call Him “Father” or “Mother”. Some relationship of this kind has to be established with Him, because people of the world do not feel affinity unless their bond is defined in such a manner.

You are accustomed to ties of kinship in worldly life; this is why you have to bind yourself by some sort of relationship in the spiritual field as well. Even though at the start you may not feel deep devotion, learn to invoke Him unceasingly and with perseverance by repeating His Name, or by any other method, until gradually He will fill your heart.

However, prayer, meditation, alms offered in His Name, and so forth, are necessary even after the bond of love has been forged, so as to keep it unimpaired. In this way the awareness of Him will become your second nature and never leave you to your last breath. This is what is termed communion with God.
