When one abides as the Self,
some divine power takes charge of one´s life.
All actions then take place spontaneously, and
are performed very efficiently, without
any mental effort or activity.

quotes

Dr. Srinivasa Rao asked Bhagavan, “When we enquire within ‘who am I?’ what is that?”
Bhagavan: It is the ego. It is only that which makes the vichara also. The Self has no vichara. That which makes the enquiry is the ego. The ‘I’ about which the enquiry is made is also the ego. As the result of the enquiry the ego ceases to exist and only the Self is found to exist.

There is neither past nor future. There is only the present. Yesterday was the present to you when you experienced it, and tomorrow will also be the present when you experience it. Therefore, experience takes place only in the present, and beyond experience nothing exists.

Kundalini

A visitor: I don’t know what kundalini is.
Bhagavan: Kundalini is one name given by the yogic people for what may be called the atma sakti inside the body. The vichara school calls the same power jnana. The bhakta calls it love or bhakti. The yogic school says that this power is dormant in muladhara at the base of the spinal cord and that it must be roused and taken through the various chakras on to sahasrara at the top, in the brain, to attain moksha. The jnanis think this power is centred in the heart, and so on.

If you surrender yourself to the Higher Power all is well. That Power sees your affairs through. Only so long as you think that you are the worker you are obliged to reap the fruits of your actions. If on the other hand, you surrender yourself and recognise your individual self as only a tool of the Higher Power, that Power will take over your affairs along with the fruits of actions. You are no longer affected by them and the work goes on unhampered. Whether you recognise the Power or not the scheme of things does not alter. Only there is a change of outlook. Why should you bear your load on the head when you are travelling on a train? It carries you and your load whether the load is on your head or on the floor of the train. You are not lessening the burden of the train by keeping it on your head but only straining yourself unnecessarily. Similar is the sense of doership in the world by the individuals.

Quotes

From the book The Garland of Guru's Sayings

79. The Attainment of Actionlessness

476. Whether or not one is performing actions, if the delusion of individuality -- the ego, ''I am the doer of actions'' -- is completely annihilated, that is the attainment of actionlessness.

Sadhu Om's note: People generally think that the attainment of actionlessness is a state in which one should remain still, giving up all activities. But this is wrong. Sri Bhagavan Ramana proclaims that the loss of doership alone is the right kind of actionlessness, and this alone is nishkamya karma -- action done without any desire for result.
