quotes 4

You are pure awareness.
The world is an illusion,
Nothing more.
When you understand this fully,
Desire falls away.
You find peace.
For indeed!
There is nothing.

In the ocean of being
There is only one.
There was and there will be
Only one.
You are already fulfilled.
How can you be bound or free?
Wherever you go,
Be happy.

Never upset your mind
With yes and no.
Be quiet.
You are awareness itself.
Live in the happiness
Of your own nature,
Which is happiness itself.

~ Ashtavakra Gita

...verses 15.17-19; translation by Thomas Byrom

quotes 2

Q: By what sign shall l know that I am beyond sin and virtue?

M: By being free from all desire and fear, from the very idea of being a person. To nourish the ideas: 'I am a sinner' 'I am not a sinner', is sin.

To identify oneself with the particular is all the sin there is. The impersonal is real, the personal appears and disappears.

'I am' is the impersonal Being. 'I am this' is the person. The person is relative and the pure Being -- fundamental.

अनन्त क्या, अन्तवत् क्या?
What is endless, what with-end?

शून्येषु सर्वधर्मेषु किमनन्तं किमन्तवत् ।
किमनन्तमन्तवच्च नानन्तं नान्तवच्च किम् ।।

śūnyeṣu sarva-dharmeṣu kim anantaṁ kim antavat
kim anantam antavac ca nānantaṁ nāntavac ca kim

"As all phenomena are empty, what is endless, what with-end?
What is endless and with-end (simultaneously)? What is (neither) endless nor not-endless?"

Nāgārjuna, Mūla-madhyamaka-kārikā, 1.22

With his unprecedented dialectic, Nāgārjuna (2/3rd century CE) transcends all categories and conceptual notions (vikalpas) --- studying Nāgārjuna makes us really understand what 'nirvikalpa' means in Vedānta.
