Awareness in sleep

INDEPENDENT AWARENESS DURING SLEEP

Q: Well then, what happens when one becomes enlightened?

Ven. SongChol: Once you've become enlightened by sweeping away all delusions, there is not even a trace of the delusions having been swept away. And that is the state of "No Mind."

You may think that this “No Mind" is like a tree or rock, like an empty animation, but it is not. It is the Great Light of Wisdom that is all-encompassing, eternal, and constantly abiding. This is the Bhutatathata, the essence of life.

Most people are unconscious when they are asleep, but one who has become enlightened has the Great Light with him constantly, no matter how deep his sleep. Such a state is evidence of having achieved enlightenment.

Ven.Tong SongChol (1912~1993), also SeongCheol, one of the great Zen masters in the last century was also called the Living Buddha of Korea.

"Samadhi is one’s natural state. It is the undercurrent in all the three states. This - that is, ‘I’ - is not in those states, but these states are in It. If we get samadhi in our waking state that will persist in deep sleep also. "

Self

apuryamanam acala-pratistham samudram apah pravisanti yadvat

As the rivers and lakes enters into the ocean, which
although full, remains undisturbed, in the same way, when all desires flows into a steady minded person, the desires becomes fused in him, does not affect him and does not make him feel avarice. He achieves peace in contrary to the one who strives to satisfy desires.

~ Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Ch2:Sh70

Both enlightened and unenlightened people live in same world. Obviously all good or bad of the material world is available to both types of people. The desires which unsettle the mind of a normal human, the same does not make any impact on the person of steady mind. Like a small river starts overflowing with even a little extra water enter it, a ocean though is already full of water is never get disturb with continuous flow of water in it. This is one of the secret of to be known.

Self

A Light on the Teaching of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi - The Essence of Spiritual Practice (Sadhanai Saram)
by Sri Sadhu Om

12. Which Do You Like?

23. Having limited and transformed oneself into a body, and having transformed the knowledge gathered through the five senses of that body into the world, one sees that world, which is nothing other than one’s own real Self, as objects which are other than oneself, and one is thereby deluded with likes and dislikes for those objects. Such confusion alone is what is called the world-illusion (jagat-maya).

24. The non-dual state in which you do not see yourself as the body and as the any objects of the world, and in which you clearly know that that which exists is only you, who are one, this alone is the state of God. Whichever you like is possible (that is, by your own unlimited perfect freedom (or paripurna-brahma-swatantra), it is possible for you to remain in whichever one of these two states you like – either in the state of delusion (maya), in which you are deluded by seeing yourself as many, or in the state of God, in which you realize yourself to be the one non-dual reality).

Self

Only reality exists and you are that.
Only consciousness exists and you are that.
Only love exists and you are that.
